Something Old ...

Clutches, hats become new wall décor

Looking to unlock the potential behind your bedroom door? You might just want to take a peek in your closet. Using stylish pieces like purses, hats and scarves as your décor, you can wake up to a quick and easy makeover. Here's how to bring style to the master suite overnight.

For a fast and budget-friendly makeover, survey your possessions. Olescia Hanson, of The Container Store, advises those in need of a bedroom do-over to reinvent by reorganizing. "You must first evaluate what you currently have," says Hanson. "When you organize your closet you will find hidden treasures that will transform your entire look." Take note of items that pop, like flashy necklaces or knickknacks tucked away. Embrace your most daring, attention-grabbing pieces.

Once you've picked your favorite pieces, use your walls as a blank canvas for your new look. Set your favorite heels on shelves and save precious closet space. Hang purses high and low like modern art. Bring a burst of color to a bland bedroom by hanging scarves or hats on hooks. Jazz with jewels by mounting a magnetic board to display long necklaces.

Rethink your use of daily household items. Catherine Gentile of Bed Bath & Beyond recommends hanging a corkboard to display different photos or memories from a favorite vacation. She also suggests using mounted vases to bring floral fusion to flat walls.

"I once saw someone frame a mirror with curtains typically used for windows. It added such a soft, romantic feel to the room," she says.
