Not just Another Day at the Office

How to transform your home office into a room you'll love

Let's face it, most home offices stay behind closed doors, and it isn't always for the sake of privacy. But with a few changes, you can make your home office reflect your style and make it a supportive space for your work as well.

According to interior designer Kirsten Floyd, you should treat your home office with the same personal touches you give other rooms.

"One thing you can do ... is to take all the artwork down in your home and re-hang it in different spaces," says Floyd of Hartford, Conn.-based Kirsten Floyd Interiors.

Keeping organized is another key way to make sure your home office is a productive space. Interior re-designer Victoria Palmer, director of the National Redesign Institute and owner of Urban Interiors located in Kansas City, Mo., says staying organized creates a place you're happy to be in.

"Tidy your desk each evening so when you come back in the morning, you're not hit with yesterday's mess," Palmer says. To cut the clutter and maintain a tidy workspace, Floyd recommends using storage options.

"Bookshelves are great to have and can make a room new and fresh," Floyd says. "Add baskets to create a more uniform and help de-clutter the space."
